No joke! In honor of PBP, we are doing our official ACP Qualifying 200k Brevet on April 1, 2023! This is an out and back to Darien, Wisconsin starting in Barrington. Lots of quiet backroads and not many hills for a way to dust off the bike and reve up for the year.
The 8:30 am start means we require lights and reflective gear as you could easily wind up in the dark so early. The start is the Barrington METRA Stop providing both free parking and an alternative way to get home. Check the train schedule carefully if you intend to ride.
Park on the east side of the lot just south of the taproom against the chain link fence OR in the shopping center next door.
Welcome back everyone! We are all looking forward to another great year. We haven't done this ride in awhile - get out your pencils for the info controls
This is a loop route from Evanston to Bull Valley on rolling roads. We are taking advantage of many paved bike trails for safety and because they are nice! Parking is free at Temperence Beer, park along the chain link fence as far to the south as possible. Come and kick off the new ride year at a new venue.
This is an urban ride. Though you may be able to finish the route before sundown, our advice is to bring lights and reflective gear just in case you find yourself out after dark.
We can have some festivities at the finish!
Moderately challenging 400k from Barrington with a few hills at the start. We head up to just near Woodstock before heading to Wisconsin and looping up through Milton and New Glarus. Once you get to New Glarus, you can take the Sugar River Trail if you don't mind a gravel/hard pack trail (the GPS takes the roads) to Brodhead. From there we head back but cross through Rockton and take a very short section of the Long Prairie Trail from Calendonia to Long Prairie. From there we head through Marengo (24 hour Shell) and back to Barrington.
This is an official PBP qualifier.
Make your reservations early if you need a place to stay. There will not be a hotel block. We highly recommend getting a room for the overnight of the 600k even if you are planning on riding straight through. Having the option and a place to shower and change/keep clothing and devices charging makes everything easier.
Already a GLR favorite, this 300k loop hits classic sights along Turtle Creek, a bit of the driftless and many rollers. Known for super quiet roads, it is a real jewel to ride. We return through Sharon and nearly past the founding spot of our club. Everyone who rides this marvels at how few cars they see. Lots of wildlife including a good shot at Sandhill Cranes as well as the scenic bridge at Tiffany.
Lights and reflective gear are required!
Lollipop route up to Eagle and back to Woodstock. About 4,700 ft of climbing so challenging without being obnoxious. Start at 7:00 am means reflective gear is needed!
Challenging new 600k route out of the St Charles/Batavia area for 2022! We start out on the Fox River Trail and head west early in the morning to Rochelle and stop briefly in Oregon before heading south to Dixon. Then the hills begin! From Dixon, we wind north all the way to Galena, IL. Tank up in Galena! AirBnd is a great source for doing your own overnight - we recommend Savanna, Mt Carroll or Lanark.
For preparing for PBP, we are starting this ride as a night ride! That means that we start at midnight on Friday night (which is 00:00 on Saturday). This ride is one large loop so this is the ideal ride to try out riding straight through with no sleep stop. If you do want to have a sleep stop, make reservations VERY early as this is a popular place for the holiday weekend.
Great route which starts out with a super flat section to Oregon. Get time in the bank and avoid the wind! Once you get to Oregon, the hills pick up with a trip by the Byron Nuclear power station and then north through the driftless up to New Glarus with an option along the Sugar River Trail. From there you turn east back through Evansville and Milton to return to Woodstock.
Lovely 300k on quiet roads circling north through Lyons with a turnaround in Juneau. This rides starts in Hebron, 1 hour after the start of the 400k in Woodstock. Finish is at Hart's Saloon. There are no hotels in Hebron so if you are tired, take a nap in your car or get a ride with others.
Brand new 600k featuring the Baraboo Bluff, a trip through downtown Madison on bike trails and some super spectacular hills in the driftless for the first 220 miles. Day 2 features a slightly more sedate trip south down to Oregon, IL. There are 3 hotels available for the overnight and all are reasonable. The Microtel has good prices (currently $72 per night).
This is ride 1 of the "Save my PTO" Brevet Week!
